Ottilia Jacobsen Square in Carlsberg Byen is a good example of how water can be brought into urban spaces as both an aesthetic and functional element. The heart of the square is the water carpet, where running water - inspired by the original spring - creates a sensory experience for all who pass through.
WERK has managed to create an urban space that invites play and immersion. The ripples and reflections of the water create an atmosphere that appeals to both children and adults and gives the space a vibrant feel. In addition to the water, the square is designed with trees and seating areas that create a café and tranquillity in the middle of the bustling city.
The project was developed in close collaboration between Udviklingsselskabet Carlsberg Byen P/S, WERK and Sven Bech A/S. Our contribution to the project has been the delivery of Dock-Line drainage grates, Campus Straight Line drainage grates located at the water curtain and the specially designed open line drainage running through Ottilias Plads and into Paulas Passage.
