The Healing Gardens are a green and flourishing oasis for patients, relatives, staff and the entire city. The gardens are open to everyone - all year round.
The patient gardens were originally designed by garden architect Edvard Glæsel. Together with the hospital's historic pavilion buildings and roads, they are one of Denmark's largest listed complexes. Glæsel sought to support the hospital's treatment with peaceful garden oases, and the new gardens reflect this approach.
For the peaceful garden, we have customised 52 benches to invite peace and healing. The benches are named after the site, Bispebjergbänken, and are designed by Erik Brandt Dam Architects. They fulfil all accessibility guidelines and are suitable for older people.
The Healing Gardens have been honoured by the City of Copenhagen 2023 and by the citizens of Copenhagen with the Audience Award. In addition, the project won Berlingske's City's Best Urban Space in 2022.
Architect Erik Brandt Dam and Landscape Architect Charlotte Skibsted have collaborated to create The Healing Gardens.
