Our wood species

Wood naturally patinates over time and takes on greyish tones regardless of the type of wood. However, oiling, especially with pigments, can bring out and preserve the original colours of the wood. Outdoor materials all patina; algae forms on roofs, tiles stain and iron rusts. Wood is also susceptible to fungal spores and particles that can cause dark stains, which is a natural part of the patination process.

Our products are delivered surface-treated and ready to use. We often use mahogany for our benches, but we also offer pine, oak, ash and other certified woods. After several years of use, all these species develop a silver-grey colour, depending on the location. All wood types can be surface treated and are available oiled if you prefer natural wood.

FSC is the world's most ambitious global certification for responsible forestry and your assurance of wood from well-managed forests and other responsible sources. FSC works for both nature and people in the world's forests.

Danish Douglas fir

Danish Douglas fir has a light pink colour with sharply defined reddish-brown grain. The wood is very dimensionally stable and easy to work and glue with the right tools. GH Form uses 100% knot-free heartwood from the root wood, which remains beautiful for many years and has natural resistance to acid, rot and insects.

The wood is sourced from state-owned forests in North Zealand and transported just 92 km to GH Form in Borup via Osted. This short transport ensures an environmentally friendly alternative to rainforest wood.

Untreated, Douglas fir can last as bench wood for +15 years, often up to 20 years, in the Danish, southern Norwegian and northern German climates, and over 20 years in Sweden's colder climate. We supply wood treated with two coats of wood oil that preserves its appearance for the first few years, with the possibility of re-treatment to prevent patination.

Mahogany FSC 100%

Sapele mahogany is a hardwood with a golden reddish-brown colour in the heartwood and light grey, pink shades. The high oil content makes the wood resistant to wind and weather.

Sapele mahogany is dimensionally stable and durable with good machining properties, making it ideal for outdoor furniture. The wood is virtually knot-free and darkens over time. It is naturally resistant to rot and mould.

The wood is well suited for surface treatment with lacquer and oil, which emphasises the grain structure and golden reddish-brown colour, makes it dirt and water repellent and reduces the risk of shrinkage cracks. Without oil treatment, the colour will patina from reddish brown to silver grey over the years.

Harrow

Oak is a well-known and popular wood species in Denmark - a Nordic classic with great properties. Danish oak is a light-coloured wood with a vibrant structure.

Oak wood is heavy, hardy and very durable. The high tannic acid content protects the wood from rot, fungus and insects. Without oil treatment, the wood patinates in greyish shades over time.

Maintenance with hardwood oil ensures that the natural light colour and glow of the wood is preserved and enhanced as much as possible.

Azobe wood

Azobo wood is a very strong and solid wood species from Africa. It is one of the strongest timbers in the world and ideal for heavy, durable and long-lasting furniture.

With a high content of natural oils, Azobé is resistant to fungi, insects and moisture. It withstands salt water, intense sun and frost and is considered almost indestructible in milder conditions.

To maintain the original dark red colour, Azobé can be oiled with pigment 2-3 times a year to prevent patination.

Thermo Fyr FSC

Thermo Pine has a brownish glow and is an ideal choice for those who value quality, aesthetics and the environment. The wood has a calm structure and almost knot-free surface, which can be further emphasised by oil treatment. When treated with Sioo:X or left untreated, the wood patinates to beautiful silver grey shades.

Thermo Pine undergoes a sustainable heat treatment that makes it resistant to the varying Nordic climate and reduces the wood's moisture absorption, increasing dimensional stability. This treatment makes the wood particularly resistant to rot and wood-degrading fungi.

With its strength and durability, Thermo Pine is a reliable choice for outdoor use.

Lighthouse

Pine is a widely used and light-coloured wood species. With proper treatment, it can achieve good durability for outdoor use. The core of the wood is glossy and varies between reddish and dark brown shades. The wood's growth rings are sharply defined and the vertical resin lines appear as light-coloured spots. The texture is rough and irregular.

Wood is a living material that changes over time. Weather, wind and wear add character and patination becomes more visible over the years, often in greyish tones.

Oiling strengthens the wood's resistance to moisture and mould while preserving its natural glow, increasing its lifespan.

Jatoba

Jatoba originates from South America and is known as South American Cherry. This exclusive hardwood species has colour tones ranging from reddish to brownish, with a beautiful texture and smooth surface with no noticeable knots or grain.

Jatoba is highly durable and long-lasting, able to withstand the Danish weather conditions year after year. The high content of natural oils provides natural protection against rot and mould.

The wood patinates over time to an elegant silver-grey colour. To preserve and emphasise the natural glow of the wood, it is recommended to treat with hardwood oil at least once a year.
