Copenhagen Round Bench

On the outermost tip of Sundmolen in Nordhavn, a newly built lighthouse stands ready to guide seafarers safely through Copenhagen Harbour. Although the lighthouse is new, it bears the mark of maritime history and is built with respect for old craft traditions. For more than 100 years, a lighthouse has stood on the pier head guiding ships into the harbour, and when the area was due for a major renovation, it became an obvious opportunity to replace the old, functional but somewhat soulless pier lighthouse with a new, aesthetic and historically inspired lighthouse.

The new lighthouse has been placed on a cobbled square, surrounded by a so-called kissing bench, a round Copenhagen bench that allows visitors to sit and enjoy the magnificent view both towards the city and out over the water. Designed and produced by GH Form, the bench is not only a functional piece of furniture, but also a beautiful element that harmonises perfectly with the aesthetics of the lighthouse. Inspired by the original lighthouse from 1917 and the Langelini Lighthouse a few hundred metres away, the lighthouse is built with both the craftsmanship traditions of the past and the demands of today in mind.

The project, carried out by contractor C.G. Jensen, has become a new landmark for Copenhagen, combining historical atmosphere with modern function. The maritime atmosphere and stunning views make this place worth a visit, where you can feel the forces of nature and the pulse of the city at the same time.
