Copenhagen Round Bench
Along the edge of Bispebjerg Cemetery, an inviting urban space has been created that invites local residents inside and opens up the calm and recreational atmosphere of the cemetery. It is a project created in close collaboration between VEGA Landskab, Lightscapes and Troelsgaard Consulting Engineers.
The green area serves as a kind of common living room for the neighbourhood - a place where the city meets the silence of the cemetery. A simple but effective architectural intervention has removed 40 metres of the cemetery wall along Skoleholdervej and pulled the line back from the pavement. This creates a new, peaceful oasis in the urban space. Here, the remains of the wall and the surrounding trees are beautifully illuminated by discreet lighting, transforming the area into a kind of outdoor "fireplace room" where you can find peace under the large canopy of trees.
The iconic Copenhagen benches and round benches, produced by GH Form, are a natural part of the urban space and emphasise the classic Copenhagen look with a modern twist.
The project has been recognised for its aesthetics and innovation and has received an award from Hovedstadens Forskønnelse in 2021 and an honourable mention from the City of Copenhagen in 2022 for its beautiful contribution to the city's architecture.
