Tree grates

- Create the best growing conditions for trees in urban spaces

Urban trees play a crucial role in the well-being of city dwellers and the aesthetics of urban spaces. They bring nature and the seasons into the city space and bring life to the urban landscape. As an integral part of the architectural expression of urban space, they create space, scale and atmosphere in the city.

In collaboration with designers such as Knud Holscher Design, Henrik Jørgensen, SLA Architects, Arkitema and Kristine Jensens Tegnestue, GH Form has developed a range of tree grates that provide trees with optimal growing conditions and emphasise their visual appeal. The different designs allow you to choose a tree hole grating that can be easily integrated into the architecture of the urban space.

Wood grates are made to last the lifetime of the wood. They are made from untreated cast iron, which quickly acquires the patina that characterises many urban space elements.

Create visual unity in the urban space

GH Form's tree hole grates are designed as part of a series of urban furniture that together create a visual unity in the urban space. Choose several elements from the same series, such as tree hole grates, drainage and bollards for a coherent architectural expression - or handpick your favourites from our different series of urban furniture and create a unique expression in your urban space.

All wooden grates are made of untreated cast iron and therefore blend well with other fixtures in the urban space.

Functional design

All tree hole grates consist of separable frames that make it easy to install the grates. It is also possible to replace the planting at a later date without having to work with the surrounding pavement.

To protect the roots of the trees, the underlying steel frame of the tree hole grates has bevelled profiles that face away from the roots.

On our Cast Iron Wood Grate, Drops Wood Grate and Campus Wood Grate, the inner rings can be cut away as the tree trunk grows wider.

Customised wooden hole grates

Do you want a unique wooden grating for your project? At GH Form, we customise wooden gratings according to your wishes. We can help you develop a completely new design or customise one of our existing designs for your project.

An example of this is our custom-made wooden hole grates at St Morten's Church Square in Randers, where the pattern of the wooden hole grates matches the arches of the church.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, we offer separable frames for our tree hole grates. This means that the tree can be planted at a later date. Here, the outer part of the frame can remain in the paving when the support of the grating is dismantled. This makes it possible to replace a tree or plant at a later date without having to remove the surrounding paving.

Yes, the watering house can be integrated into most of our tree hole grates. The irrigation housing fits a maximum Ø76 mm drain hose for watering trees. The cover does not close tightly and thus creates an oxygen supply to the tree roots.

With built-in uplights in the tree cavity grating, it's easy to create a cosy atmosphere in the dark hours. The light gives the trees a prominent role in the urban space around the clock and creates a sense of security among the users of the urban space.

Our tree protection stand protects the tree from the hustle and bustle of city life - collisions, parked bikes and much more. This gives the tree a better chance to grow strong enough to withstand the sometimes harsh growing conditions in urban spaces. The stands can be attached and removed as needed.

Yes, the wood protection racks can be retrofitted to our wood hole grates and can be removed as needed.
