Hærvejen / Viborg Baneby

The Viborg Baneby project has transformed the former industrial area into a dynamic neighbourhood with school and cultural facilities, housing and businesses. The lifeblood of the area is the Hærvej Bridge and Hærvejsstien.

The Hærvej Bridge has become a central link that strengthens the cycling connection between Sydbyen and the city centre, connecting Banebyen with the heart of Viborg. In the middle of the bridge, cosy places with plants and seating have been created, encouraging much more than just transport.

The Hærvejsstien path in Banebyen is designed according to the "shared space" principle, which means that both low-speed cars, cyclists and pedestrians can use it. The path is laid out with large bright concrete surfaces, trees, perennials, herbs and seating options that invite you to linger along the way.

The project is part of Realdania's 'Kickstart the Suburb' campaign, which focuses on sustainable suburban regeneration. Our Open Line Drainage, Point Drainage Grates, Tree Hole Grates and Blind Drainage Lines play a central role in the project along Hærvejsstien, Hærvejsbroen and the station area.

LYTT Architecture has been responsible for the development of the masterplan, design and planning of the Hærvej Bridge, which is the unifying element of the area in collaboration with Cubo Architects as the main consultant. Skive Anlæg og Entreprenør ApS is the main contractor on the project.
